Green waste

Yard Waste Removal in Port Charlotte, FL

Keep vegetation separate and it disposes through a cheaper stream. Mix it with general debris and you pay landfill rates for leaves.

Roll-off truck delivering a container to a palm-lined street in Port Charlotte, Florida

Yard waste is the material where separating your streams pays off most obviously. Clean vegetation — branches, pine and oak limbs, hedge trimmings, grass, leaves, stumps — goes to a yard-waste facility where it is processed into mulch and compost. That stream costs meaningfully less per ton than mixed debris going to a landfill.

Throw one bag of household junk in with it and the entire load is reclassified as mixed waste. That is not us being awkward; it is how the receiving facilities work. Keep the container clean and you will see it on the invoice.

Vegetation in a Florida yard

Charlotte County grows things fast, and Charlotte County properties produce a genuinely surprising volume of green waste. Live oak and laurel oak drop heavy limbs. Sabal and queen palms shed fronds constantly and each one is bulky. Bougainvillea, ficus hedging and viburnum grow back almost as fast as you can cut them. And on the acreage properties out toward Gulf Cove, Gulf Cove and Placida, brush clearing generates volumes that genuinely need a roll-off.

Weight is the thing people misjudge. Freshly cut green vegetation holds a great deal of water, and it gets heavier still if it sits through a Florida afternoon storm. If your container will be open through a wet week, let material dry where you can, and consider sizing down. Charlotte County residents get twelve free transfer visits a year, for residents, which is a good option for small quantities — but it will not take anything mixed, and there are volume limits.

What goes in — and what cannot

Accepted material

  • Tree branches and limbs
  • Pine limbs and trunks
  • Hedge and shrub cuttings
  • Grass clippings and leaves
  • Stumps and root balls (by arrangement)
  • Fallen storm debris
  • Sod and turf removal
  • Untreated timber from natural clearing

Never accepted

  • Household junk or construction debris mixed in
  • Soil and fill dirt at volume
  • Rocks, concrete and hardscape material
  • Treated or painted timber
  • Plastic pots, bags and landscape fabric
  • Pesticides, herbicides and fertiliser
  • Fencing, posts and wire
  • Anything non-organic

If you are unsure, ask before you load it. Prohibited material found in a load costs far more to deal with after the fact than a thirty-second phone call costs now. Charlotte County runs household chemical and white goods drop-off at the Zemel Road site for most of what we cannot take.

How the booking works

  1. 1

    Call and describe the job

Tell us what you're clearing and where you are. Yesenia Alcantar or a dispatcher will size it with you in about three minutes — no forms, no waiting on an email quote.

  2. 2

    Lock in a flat rate

You get one number that covers delivery, the rental period, pickup, and disposal up to your weight allowance. We tell you the overage rate up front so nothing lands on your invoice later.

  3. 3

    We deliver and protect

Our driver calls ahead, lays boards under the rails on driveways and pavers, and sets the can exactly where you want it — doors facing the work.

  4. 4

    Fill it, we haul it

Load to the fill line, call when you're done, and we pull it. Most loads run to the Charlotte County Landfill on Zemel Road — and we carry the building permit number for the job, which is what keeps you off the out-of-county rate.

Answers

Yard Waste Removal — common questions

Why does yard waste need its own container?
Because clean vegetation goes to a yard-waste processing facility where it becomes mulch, and that costs less per ton than landfill disposal. Contaminate the load with plastic, timber or household waste and the whole container is priced as mixed debris.
Can I use the county transfer sites instead?
For small quantities, absolutely. Charlotte County operates a yard waste drop-off on South Zemel Road, open weekdays for residents, and it accepts yard waste along with tyres, white goods and household chemicals. It does not accept construction material or general household trash, and there are limits, so for a full lot clearance a roll-off is the practical option.
Do you take stumps?
Yes, with notice. Stumps and root balls carry a lot of soil weight and some facilities handle them differently, so tell us at booking rather than surprising the driver.
What about after a hail storm?
Charlotte County usually runs a separate storm debris collection programme after a declared event, and if that is running you should use it — it is free. What it will not cover is debris that has already been moved onto private property, or material mixed with construction waste. More on that here.
Is wet vegetation a problem?
It is heavier, which matters for your weight allowance. If your container is going to be open through a rainy week and the load is already substantial, mention it and we will factor it in.
